Walmart Expands Benefits to Cover GLP‑1 Drugs, Inhalers and Insulin for Employees
Walmart will cover Ozempic, Mounjaro, inhalers and insulin for eligible employees at no cost after a new prior‑authorization process.
Walmart announced that it will provide its U.S. employees with free access to Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro, two GLP‑1 medications used to treat type 2 diabetes, after implementing a new prior‑authorization process.
The benefit expansion also includes coverage of prescription inhalers and insulin at no cost to eligible workers, aiming to reduce out‑of‑pocket expenses for common chronic‑disease treatments.
The retailer said the move is part of a broader effort to enhance its health‑care benefits package, though it did not disclose how many employees are expected to use the new coverage.
Why It Matters
The initiative could lower medication costs for a large workforce in the United States, highlighting corporate roles in addressing rising drug prices.
