Zelensky Claims U.S. Gave No Warning Before Kyiv Power Plant Strike
Zelensky alleges the United States failed to warn Kyiv before a Russian missile attack on power plants, sparking criticism of U.S. intelligence sharing.
World News
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the United States did not alert Kyiv before a Russian missile barrage hit the city’s power plants on Sunday night. Air force spokesman Yuri Ihnat told television viewers that Ukraine received no warning prior to the attack that began around 11 p.m.
The statement revives accusations that Washington is withholding intelligence to pressure Kyiv amid ongoing tensions with former President Donald Trump over perceived support for Moscow. A Ukrainian government official had previously informed the Guardian that the United States had not warned the capital about the impending strike.
Zelensky described the lack of warning as a "denial of reality" and suggested it reflects a broader pattern of strained U.S.–Ukrainian relations.
Why It Matters
The episode raises concerns among NATO allies about the reliability of U.S. intelligence sharing with Ukraine during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
